CMR improves identification of aortic valve morphology in aortic stenosis

چکیده
Background The morphology of the aortic valve is of increasing importance in the evaluation of patients with calcific aortic stenosis (AS). The finding of a bicuspid valve can influence the suitability for transcutaneous aortic valve implantation, the attention paid to the proximal aorta, and consideration of family screening. More recent work has also suggested that the type of bicuspid valve can provide important information for planning surgery.

Bicuspid Aortic Valve: An Unusual Cause of Aneurysm of Left Coronary Sinus of Valsalva
Bicuspid aortic valve is traditionally considered an innocuous congenital anomaly. Due to a better and widespread availability of non-invasive imaging techniques, it has come to the fore that 30% of these cases develop complications, viz., valve abnormality (aortic regurgitation and stenosis), and aneurysm of aortic root and ascending aorta. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is an uncommon complicatio...

Methods 46 patients with severe AS without obstructive coronary artery disease awaiting aortic valve replacement were studied. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) was used to assess aortic valve area using the continuity equation, peak aortic velocity and mean valve gradient. CMR was used to assess aortic valve morphology and to enable planimetry of aortic valve area. Two SSFP cines of the aor...

Background: Balloon valvuloplasty is a relatively new technique for relief of obstruction of aortic valve. The primary results of this procedure are similar to surgical valvotomy with fewer complications and mortality. Materials and methods: One hundred fifty-five patients with congenital aortic stenosis were enrolled in this study over a period of 6 years (1991-1997). Participants were all un...

BACKGROUND Aortic valve area (AVA) estimation in patients with aortic stenosis may be obtained using several methods. This study was undertaken to verify the cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) planimetry of aortic stenosis by comparing the findings with invasive catheterization, transthoracic (TTE) as well as tranesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and anatomic CMR examination of autopsy spe...

Methods Eighty-nine patients (53 male, mean age 60 years) with pure severe AS (n = 36) or severe AS with mild aortic regurgitation (n = 53) were included in the study. All patients underwent transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), cardiac computed tomography (CCT) and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and subsequent valvuloplasty operation. Patients were analyzed according to the presence and abse...
